Most UK cities have a great public transport network, however, if you have to drive, it’s coordinated by the Driving and Vehicle Licencing Agency, DVLA. There are a few options
Option 1. You can exchange your foreign licence for a £50 fee in the UK if you’re from
- European Union or European Economic Area
- Great Britain or Northern Ireland
- Jersey, Guernsey or Isle of Man
- A ‘designated country or territory’ (countries or territories with exchange agreements with Great Britain)
Option 2. Drive for 12 months on your foreign licence If you’re not from the four regions above.
Option 3: Apply for your provincial license, not options 1 & 2? Apply @ £34 online here.
- your UK passport number (a passport that expired within the last 12 months can be used for this service)
- your National Insurance number if you know it
- you may also have to provide addresses where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
After 12 months you’ll need to take a theory test and practical test to get a Great Britain issued driving licence.
