Spouse Visa

by Root_Admin

Say goodbye to long-distance marriages. You can apply for Spouse Visa or Marriage visa to move to the United Kingdom and live together with your partner for up to 30 months, which can be extended if you are eligible.

To qualify for a Spouse visa, you must be married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen, UK settled person or UK refugee. This visa takes about 24 weeks to process from the time you submit your application.

To apply for the Spouse visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You and your spouse/partner must be 18 years old or over.
  • You must have met each other and be legally married – this is to prevent arranged marriages.
  • You must intend to live together permanently.
  • You must have enough money to support yourselves (and any dependents) without claiming public funds.
  • Your sponsoring partner must earn more than £18,600 per year or have enough savings to be able to sponsor you. The minimum financial requirement is higher if they are also sponsoring dependent children.
  • You must have suitable accommodation for you, your spouse and any dependants.
  • You must satisfy the English proficiency requirements

Take note, this visa is not the same as the UK marriage visitor visa that only allows you to come to the UK to get married or enter into a civil partnership, regardless if your partner is a British citizen or not. Also, you are required to have information and evidence ready when you make your application. For guidance, click on the link: https://bit.ly/2sMepoj

When all requirements are ready, you must apply for your spouse visa online before traveling to the UK. You can apply online within or outside the United Kingdom.
